A lot of non-profits and small businesses might not be able to work on the height of their interests due to the lack of proper funding. This issue is solved by the government or other big entities that provide grants. Now the question arises, What are Grants?

What are Grants?

A grant is a sum of money awarded by a government entity or a fundraiser, usually for a cause that acts in their best interests. Grants in the US are usually listed at the dedicated website for Grants.

This may give the notion that a grant is just a bigger sibling of a loan but it’s quite the opposite… Grants don’t need to be repaid!

The government funds small business owners or non-profit owners in order to provide better support to minorities, or support small charitable organizations and or simply invest in businesses that help uplift the economy.

More About Grants:

Grants are one of the many forms of Federal Assistance. Federal Financial Assistance is simply how the government helps the people by giving them business opportunities like Grants, Loans, Subsidies, Tax credits, Scholarships, and more.

Enough about Federal Assistance let’s talk more about grants. Grants are almost always TargetedExtensiveCompetitive, and Conditional.

Grants are awarded mostly by either State Governments or Local agencies, we might even see private investors stepping up, But here at Business Consultants Pro, we’re more concerned with grants funded by State Governments.

Grants are awarded after the funder receives a grant proposal. After all we’re talking about big stacks of money being given by Governments. So, your proposal needs to be right on the money.

What Is A Grant Proposal?

A grant proposal is a formal request that is sent out to entities that provide grants to business owners and non-profit owners.

A Grant Proposal needs to be written in a formal tone and needs to be quite persuasive in order to stand out of the thousands received by said entities.

Usually what happens is that non-profits or small businesses with promising numbers often hire novice proposal writers and lose their chance of winning the said grant. Every potential applicant should be aware of what a grant proposal is and what should be covered in said requests.

What Makes a Grant Proposal Good?

There are many factors that make a Grant Proposal work or not. For instance, any funder can easily tell if a proposal is AI-generated or written with some robotic help. Other than that the tone of the Request will also be scrutinized. Below are the metrics for a good Grant proposal:

  1. Is the proposal well-researched?
What usually happens is that the potential applicant becomes hasty and applies for a grant they’re not quite qualified for yet. What this does is make the applicant business owner less suitable for future applications.
  2. Is the proposal well written?
This is arguably the biggest deal-breaker. You may have the best Business Idea or the most hardworking team but if the writer isn’t making the proposal top-notch your organization won’t ever be awarded a grant.
  3. Is the proposal relevant?
We should be aware of the Eligibility Criteria for any Grant that we’re applying for in order to have the best results.
  4. Repeatedness
We should try to apply for every grant more than once. Here, retargeting is the key. This method of retargeting certain Grants may make the chances of our request being approved higher by 90% on average.

The Best Way To Write Grant Proposals

Anatomy of a Grant Proposal

Like anything else, grant writing can be done in many ways but one proven way is the System Of Writing Grant Proposals. In other words, writing the proposal in a way that starts with:

  1. Introduction: What can the funder expect from your proposal and what can you do with the funding provided by them?
  2. Organization’s Background: What organization is sending out the proposal? What have they done in order to be eligible for said Grant?
  3. Needs Assessment: We should tell the funder why we need the said Grant. What are our intentions behind sending out this Proposal? Will the project in hand be beneficial for a specific community or a group of people?
  4. Way of Implementation: What will we do with the funding provided to us? How will we go about the project we’re looking forward to completing?
  5. Targets and Aims: What is our vision for the project? How will it work with the needs assessment? Is what we’re doing backed up by hard numbers or is it all just a fairytale?
  6. Sustainability and Evaluation: Say for instance, we are awarded the grant, what then? How will we sustain the project in hand and how will we go about everything else?

When all of this is discussed in a Grant Proposal, then it is considered worthy of being awarded the Grant requested.
